It is a deliberated attempt on the part of the government to save the people involved in kidnapping of Dr Aafia and handing her over to the US, the participants of the conference said in a unanimous voice. They called upon the Supreme Court of Pakistan to write a letter to the US Court to use its prosecutional discretion and send Dr Aafia Siddiqui back to Pakistan. "It is discretion of the US court to drop the charges against Dr Aafia Siddiqui, if Pakistani Court writes a letter in this regard," the participants of the conference were informed.
The Conference held at the headquarters of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), which was chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood, was attended by leaders of various political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and PML-Q, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the members of Standing Committee.
The conference hold former military dictator Pervaiz Musharraf and the then IG Sindh Kamal Shah, responsible for kidnapping of Dr Aafia and his kids, saying that present government should take strong action against these two persons along those who played role in the nefarious episode.
Senator Talha Mehmood informed the conference about the efforts being made by the Senate's Standing Committee for her safe release, adding that entire nation is united on this one point to bring the daughter of nation back.
He assured that negative attempts from some people would not bar him or his colleagues to struggle for Dr Aafia and her kids' release. If at this hour we sit back and leave Dr Aafia at the mercy of the US administration the future of every Pakistan will be hanging in balance.
Dr Fauzia Siddiqui with tears in her eyes expressed dismay over discouraging attitude of some political leaders hailing from secular political parties, saying the should not politicise this issue and leave us alone. "I have left this case now to the highest court of Allah Almighty and I am sure that He will give us justice and people involved in handing over Dr Aafia would face the wrath of Allah Almighty", she said. She rejected the government claim of allocating Rs 2 million for lawyers, who plead Dr Aafia's case, saying that she don't need the money of the poor Pakistani, who are entangled in price hike and other crisis.
Barrister Jaffry informed the participants that the Constitutional Court of South Africa took an exception of handing over a Tanzanian citizen, who illegally entered America. This court sent a letter to American Trial Court demanded that the person should not be prosecuted and sent him back to South Africa. The American Court responded positively and directed the US administration to sent the person back.
